The Berwyn Firefighter’s Union Local 506 would like to thank everyone involved with the 8th annual sofball tournament. The teams of partcipants who spent a very long day playing and the volunteers who helped make another year possible are a testament to the commitment that the public service has to this community. This tournament could not happen without the help of businesses who share in our drive to help the children of our community stay warm through the winter. The generosity of MacNeal Hospital, The Berwyn Recreation Department, Michael Anthony’s Pizza, Lagunitas Brewing, BuckleDown Brewery, Urban Legend Brewery, Maggianos of Oak Brook, The Clubhouse Oak Brook, Ditka’s of Oak Brook, Streamlight, MSA, Menards, Target of Broadview, Kane County Cougars, Schaumburg Boomers, and Phoenix Fire Systems is what allows this tournament to raise enough money to contnue to exceed the previous year’s total and continue to grow. These donatons show that when a community comes together for our children, great things can be accomplished. Thank you again to all involved and we look forward to an even bigger and better event next year.
For 8 years, we have organized this softball tournament to generate funds to donate to "Operation Warm", a program designed to give the gift of warmth to children of Berwyn by supplying those in need with American made winter coats to help brave the harsh chicagoland area weather. As winter appraoches, our firefighters will hand deliver the special gifts, personally fitting each child with a new coat and helping them
to write their name in the interior tag which reads, “Made Especially for You.” Beyond warmth, Berwyn Firefighters hope
that this will boost self-esteem, keep children in school, and create memories that will last much longer than the life of

Once again, Mayor Hermanek has sent out letters to the North Riverside residents amazingly fraught with distortions, half-truths and lies, at the taxpayers' expense, I might add. Let me take the time to share with you some of his fairy tales.
For years, the Village of North Riverside have been protected by professional full-time union firefighters, who have to be certified by the Illinois State Fire Marshall's Office, test for the position, go through a background check and a physical agility test.
They train daily; they give back to the community and care about each and every resident. Yes, they have had to work alongside numerous part-time PSI employees, who work for a for-profit company, whose only concern is their own bottom line....
